Nelson Choral Singers Concert: A Place for Every Voice
April 25th, 4 pm and 7:30 pm, Nelson United Church
Now for something different! With Nelson Choral Singers’ long-time music director Kathleen Neudorf taking a short break, the choir has instead been working with guest director David Lane. He brings a new and exciting repertoire and a different vibe — one the choir has embraced whole-heartedly.
Lane is a multi-talented jazz singer, keyboardist, educator, beatboxer and vocal coach. A dynamic and engaging performer, he has12 years of international touring experience singing in small ensembles, acapella groups, and larger choral groups. He’s formerly of the multi Juno-nominated vocal quartet “Cadence,” and currently sings with a New York City-based Pop/R&B acapella group called “Duwende”. Since relocating to Nelson four years ago, he has also been rehearsal pianist with Lalin Vocal Ensemble
In selecting repertoire for this Nelson Choral Singers concert, Lane says his guiding principle has been "feel-good music that is gratifying to sing and has an uplifting message.”
“The music chosen has a focus on the joys of singing together, building each other up through music, and using choir as a way to create community and belonging.”
The result is a wonderfully eclectic mix of choral styles and rhythms. If you last heard the choir in concert singing Handel’s Messiah in December, this could not be more of a switch.
The 60-member choir will be accompanied by Carlisle Beresford on piano, Rob Fahie on double bass, and Jamie Carter on drums.
Two performances on Saturday April 25th, 4 pm and 7:30 pm, at the Nelson United Church, 602 Silica Street. Tickets are $15 for adults ($10 for children 12 and under). They will be available at Otter Books after April 11 or at the door. Cash only, please.
